Patient Participation Group
A Patient Participation Group (PPG) is a group of people who are patients of the surgery and want to help it work as well as it can for patients, doctors and staff. Your experiences matter and you can bring different ideas to the surgery to help us treat patients better or to improve what we do in some way. If you would like more information please contact us.

Paediatric Nurse
NT informed the group of the new paediatric nurse, Joe Cloran, who has recently joined us. Joe’s background is within A&E and he is currently training to be a prescribing nurse. Joe will look after all under 16 patients from birth upwards.
Care-coordinators
Jasmine Harris (JH) explained her role as Care coordinator, working alongside the PCN, looking after care home and nursing home patients. Vicky Turk (VT) is also a care-coordinator, looking after cancer patients and paramedic Louise Redbourn (LR) looks after any patients of concern including frail or those living alone. LR will assess patients and referrals can be made if required. JH and VT recently visited Bowes House for dementia care training. JH handed out leaflets about a forthcoming ‘Meet the Managers’ evening at Bowes House. Jessica Magowan (JM) is currently training to be a Care for Carers advocate to help support carers.
New Website
Alyson Smith (AS) presented the new website which is due to be launched on Tuesday 21st March 2023. This will have the same URL as previous. The vastly improved website is user friendly and more compliant than before and includes a search bar, translation service, self-help zone with links to NHS information and advice, plus Engage Consult. Patient Access, NHS app, appointments, sick notes, Livi and more will also be accessible through the website. AS will be looking to change the surgery telephone message to initially direct patients towards the new website to help relieve incoming call traffic. Eddy suggested a PPG page should be available to include minutes of meetings and an application form. AS confirmed there is a ‘sign up’ form already on the website.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
NT stated that we would like to hold a Macmillan Coffee Morning, date tbc. She asked if any PPG members would be keen to help out with the practical side and cake making etc. There was general interest from the members. Venue would most probably be the Vicarage Field surgery. Suggested dates will be forwarded soon.
PPG Formalisation
The PPG is not currently formalised. Eddy handed out a ‘Terms of Reference’ sheet for everyone to read through. He would like the PPG to be more pro-active and to take on someone with secretarial background to send out agendas and take minutes of meetings (other than HMG staff) and a request would be made on the Facebook group for secretarial support.
South Downs Health & Care (SDHC)
PS asked about HMG’s relationship with Hampden Park. This is an extended access service run by the GP Federation where our patients may be referred if we have no capacity.
